Instagram is making two major strides to enhance its platform experience, launching a dedicated iPad app and simultaneously testing a Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode for Reels. These updates are designed to make content consumption more convenient, continuous, and enjoyable across a wider range of devices and scenarios.

The native iPad app addresses a long-standing request from the community. It delivers an interface specifically crafted for the tablet’s expansive display, moving away from the previous stopgap of an enlarged iPhone app. This optimized design improves navigation, makes visuals more impactful, and provides a more comfortable and engaging user experience for tablet owners.

The Picture-in-Picture test, on the other hand, tackles the modern challenge of multitasking. It allows a Reel to continue playing in a small, unobtrusive window when a user needs to switch apps to reply to a message or check another notification. This thoughtful feature ensures that entertainment and communication can happen in parallel, not in sequence.

From a creator’s perspective, these are welcome changes. The PiP feature directly contributes to better audience retention and higher video completion rates. Meanwhile, the iPad app offers a premium viewing environment for their content. Together, these enhancements show Instagram is doubling down on its commitment to a superior user and creator experience.
