The two leaders pledged to enhance cooperation in emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors, as well as in critical minerals. They also agreed to continue implementing their existing bilateral tariff agreement. This cooperation is seen as a strategic move to strengthen economic security amidst evolving global challenges.
In addition to economic topics, Takaichi and Trump addressed security concerns in the Indo-Pacific region. They committed to working closely on issues involving China and reaffirmed their efforts to bolster the alliance’s deterrence and response capabilities. North Korea’s security threats were also on the agenda, highlighting the ongoing focus on regional stability.
Another important topic of discussion was the International Criminal Court (ICC). Prime Minister Takaichi reiterated Japan’s support for the ICC and emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law. Both leaders shared their views on this matter, underscoring the significance of international legal frameworks.
