In a recent meeting held in Hanoi, senior officials from Vietnam and Japan reaffirmed their dedication to bolstering ties between their ruling parties and legislative bodies. Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a prominent figure within the Communist Party of Vietnam, engaged in discussions with Hagiuda Koichi, the Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation.

The discussions underscored the ongoing expansion of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both parties expressed a mutual desire to intensify political dialogue and promote parliamentary exchanges, building upon the momentum from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Vietnam earlier this year.

Nguyễn Duy Ngọc emphasized Vietnam’s robust economic performance and the progress of administrative reforms, while encouraging Japan to share its expertise in local governance and decentralization. This, he suggested, would aid Vietnam’s institutional development. Additionally, he advocated for increased collaboration in areas such as human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology. He also called for stronger connections between the two nations’ parliamentary friendship groups and more exchanges involving young lawmakers.

The Vietnamese delegation also highlighted the importance of continued support for the Vietnamese community residing in Japan and proposed simplifying visa procedures. A long-term objective was set to establish visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens. Hagiuda Koichi expressed his endorsement of expanding bilateral cooperation, affirming that Japan’s LDP and parliament would persist in fostering exchanges and joint initiatives, particularly in advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy.
