South Africa marched into their first-ever 50-over World Cup final after a dominant 125-run victory over England, and will now await the winner of the second semi-final between Australia and India. The historic win was secured by phenomenal performances from their captain and lead seamer.
Laura Wolvaardt was the star, smashing 169 to power her team to 319 for seven. Her innings included a 28-ball, 69-run blitz after she had completed her maiden World Cup century.
Marizanne Kapp then demolished the English reply, taking five for 20. She started with a double-wicket maiden, reducing England to one for three, and never let up.
Kapp also became the all-time leading World Cup wicket-taker in the process, adding a personal milestone to the team’s historic achievement.
England were bowled out for 194. South Africa, having finally broken their semi-final curse, will now travel to Navi Mumbai on Sunday with a chance to win their first-ever World Cup title.
